That’s a great question and I’m glad you asked. Many people think that Startup Drinks ends when the last entrepreneur is bounced from the bar, but that’s not true. It’s really just the beginning. Here are a few ways you can help to solidify and maintain the connections you’ve made with other entrepreneurs.
- Send a follow up email. You did get a card right? Twitter handle? Facebook?? LinkedIn??? Ok, you at least got a name/company, so look them up on any social network or through your favorite search engine. Chances are you’ll find them. The key here is just to do some type of follow up.
- Think about ways you can help their startup. Done thinking? There should be dozens of ways you can help, but…
- Talk to them and find out what they really need. How does that align with ways you can help? Good. Do it. Act.
- Spread the word about their startup. Let other people know so they can provide feedback too. Be a connector.
- Promote and go to other events for entrepreneurs or start your own. Come to the next Startup Drinks or OpenCoffee Club. Sponsor an event.
And to get you started here’s a list of companies, organizations and people who attended Startup Drinks in November. If I missed you, please let me know and I’ll add you posthaste, or add yourself in the comments.

November’s Phoenix Startup Drinks is taking place this Thursday at Bison Witches. We’ve been working with ASU to collaborate on the events as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which is this week, from Nov 16-22.
Entrepreneurs@ASU will be on hand giving out stickers that get you on a PARTY BUS that will take you from Startup Drinks to the Big Idea! keynote, an informative and inspirational talk from one of the entrepreneurial community’s brightest, Troy D. Byrd.
In addition to the support provided by ASU, we’ve also had some startups step up and offer additional prizes during the event. Here’s a complete list of what to expect:
This looks like it will be a great event to meet entrepreneurs in Phoenix. Looking forward to meeting you there!

September is upon us and what better way to celebrate than getting together over a beer with fellow startup founders?

Our first two months of events went well, but I don’t feel that we need two events per month. Originally, it was to try to accommodate more people, but there just hasn’t been enough demand. So, this month, we’re reducing to a single event on the last Thursday of the month.

This month, our destination is The Rose and Crown in downtown Phoenix at Heritage Square.

After talking with quite a few people, we’ve settled on having the first Phoenix Startup Drinks in Tempe at Four Peaks Brewery!
When
2nd Tues: Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 6-9pm
Last Thurs: Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 6-9pm
We’re trying to have it twice a month on different days to accommodate more people. If this format doesn’t work, then we’ll change it and let you know :)
About the venue
Housed in a historic brick building dating to 1892, Four Peaks Brewery is a staple of Tempe nightlife. It’s won many awards over the years for it’s unique beers and was recently awarded the 2009 Critics’ Pick for Best Local Brewery from AZCentral as well as the 2009 Readers’ Choice for Best Pub with Grub.

So it’s been over a year since anything was done with this page and in that time, Phoenix has grown a lot. Seems like a great opportunity for a rebirth of Startup Drinks! Here are some initial thoughts, but your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
When
We’re thinking that it should be twice a month on the 2nd Tuesday and last Thursday of each month. Meetup time will probably be around 6pm - 9/10pm.
With so many things going on in Phoenix, it will be difficult to not overlap something, but we’re trying to avoid the obvious conflicts like Refresh Phoenix, * Friday Nights, etc. Of course, we don’t know everything that’s happening in Phoenix, so if there is something glaringly obvious that we conflict with, please let us know!
Where
We’d like to move the event around Phoenix to try to maximize the exposure to people throughout the valley. We could either choose a different venue for each meetup (24 venues in a year), or choose a venue for each month (12 venues in a year). Of course, the latter would be easier.
Here’s a list of potential places, please suggest more and/or fill in the gaps:
- Four Peaks Brewing Company - Tempe, AZ
- Gordon Biersch - Tempe, AZ
- Liberty Market - Gilbert, AZ
- Aunt Chilada’s - Phoenix, AZ
- George & Dragon Pub - Phoenix, AZ
- Rose & Crown - Phoenix, AZ
- ???? - N. Phoenix, AZ
- Salty Señorita - Scottsdale, AZ (via @MsHerr)
- Skeptical Chymist - N. Scottsdale, AZ (via @MsHerr)
- ???? - Peoria, AZ
- ???? - Glendale, AZ
- ???? - Litchfield Park/Avondale/Goodyear, AZ
- ???? - Mesa, AZ
Like we said, this is just preliminary planning, but if we started this month, the first event would be next week on June 9. If we’re still deciding on appropriate dates/times then it might be later in the month. We’re flexible about all of this, so please let us know your thoughts!
